Philippians 4:6 (NIV) 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Hey, y’all. It’s Daisy. Today, we are looking at the “This Week” page in our Alone With God journal, which means we are looking ahead and taking inventory of our lives and putting specific focus on areas in which we want God to strengthen us or enlighten us. And the reason that this is so important is because it is so good to have an intentional goal for our focus every week because that is how God changes us and refines us so that everything that flows from us in this life is lifegiving.
So, take some time. Be intentional about what parts of your life you’ll pray over and what you’ll be focused on spiritually, and actions that you will take to honor God and the changes that he wants to make in you. And I think that it’s best to do this on a Monday, but you can do it at any time.
And something that I’m going to be working on this week is processing my emotions in a God honoring way. I think it’s so easy to be in a good mood and respond well when we are happy and thriving. But as you look at your week, I want you to consider how you will respond to people and circumstances when things aren’t going that well. Philippians 4:6 gives us instructions on how to handle ourselves emotionally. It tells us that in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
So, God’s not asking us not to feel. I think that emotions are a gift, and they are there to tell us what stories we’re telling ourselves about who we are and about what we believe about ourselves to be true. And what direction we think our life is heading in. So, we don’t want to suppress, or medicate, or deny our feelings. We really should acknowledge them.
But, going beyond that, I think that it’s so important to bring them to God and to take comfort in him, and to give thanks for what’s being done in our lives, even if we can’t see it or understand it. And I think the goal is really to rise above our emotions and live in the truth of who we are, and act accordingly. You might feel exhausted, or frustrated, or hurt. But I want you to remember that you are a child of God and stand on the promises that come with that truth and rise above your emotions, and act in love towards others and in response to difficult circumstances so that things can shift and so that you don’t block your blessings.
So, that’s it. I hope that you enjoyed this short little devotional for today. If you need an Alone With God journal, please come get one at wordbymail.com. Until next time, I pray that you have a wonderful and safe week.
