Wait in Hope-Psalm 33:20-22

Be sure to LISTEN to the audio from Daisy (ABOVE) as she shares this devotion and a little bit about our "Alone With God Journal."

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father, I fix my hope on You. Teach me, Lord, by your Holy Spirit, to wait with confident trust, rejoice in Your holy name, and rest under Your unfailing love. In Jesus' name, amen.

Hope in You Alone (Psalm 33:20-22)

Key Verse (NLT):
"We put our hope in the LORD. He is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD, for our hope is in you alone." (Psalm 33:20-22)
Read Psalm 33:20-22 slowly. Where is God inviting you to shift your hope from outcomes or control to Him-your true Help and Shield?

Meditate

What does God's Word say?

  • Confident expectation: "We put our hope in the LORD." Hope here is an active trust while we wait; the LORD is both our help and our shield (v.20).
  • Joy rooted in trust: Our hearts rejoice because we trust in God alone - in His reliable character (v.21).
  • Surrounded by love: We ask for the LORD's unfailing love (His covenantal steadfast love) to surround us, grounding our confident hope in Him alone (v.22).

Biblical hope isn't wishful thinking; it's steady, glad confidence in who God is. As we wait, He helps and He shields; as we trust, joy rises; as His unfailing love surrounds us, our hope narrows to Him alone.

Apply

How does this truth apply to my life today? Name what you've been relying on - your plans, people's approval, financial security . . . and re-center your hope in the Lord. Practice rejoicing by thanking God for who He is, not just what you want Him to do, and ask for His unfailing love to surround the very place you feel most vulnerable.

Ask the Spirit: "Where have I placed my hope elsewhere? What would it look like to put my hope in You alone today?"

Respond

Today I will:

  • Name one area where I've leaned on my own strength, then pray v.22 over it: "Lord, let Your unfailing love surround me here."
  • Pray this prayer throughout your day: "Lord, my hope is in You alone."
  • Keep Psalm 33:20-22 with you and read it throughout the day.
Make it concrete: Choose one small, specific step that expresses hope in the Lord (a call, a confession, a pause to pray) in the next 24 hours.

Closing Prayer

LORD, You are my Help and my Shield, please surround me with Your unfailing love. Teach my heart to rejoice in the confident hope I have in you, and anchor my trust in You alone. In Jesus' name, amen.
If you can, write your thoughts and responses in your journal.

Hope in God is an absolute.
