Your Prescription From God
Your Prescription From God
Psalm 100:1-5
Today's devotion is Your Prescription From God, and we are going to that incredibly awesome Psalm 100. So, grab your Bible. (I use the NLT.) If it's possible, really try to get into a place where you can focus, where you can really hear and receive God's prescription for you today. So, let's just say a quick prayer right now to ask God to be with us and to speak to us directly and specifically today.
Heavenly Father, please, Lord God, stop our mind from spinning. Lord, stop all this stuff from going on and just give us focus. Lord, allow us to hear and receive what you have for us today, for our good, and for your glory, and in your name, Jesus, amen.
Guys, whatever your circumstances are today, whatever you're going through today, there is a prescription that God has. God has a prescription for you in this. And I realize that in some seasons, this prescription is harder to take. It's harder to engage in. It's harder to feel. But it is still the prescription from God for you. And at whatever level of response that you can embrace this prescription today, you must. You’ve got to.
Sometimes it's forcing yourself with whatever strength you have left to act on this prescription from God. And sometimes these truths easily roll off your lips and overflow from your heart. But whether it's forcing this prescription or easily overflowing with this prescription, guys, these verses must absolutely be a part of whatever God is carrying you through today and whatever your current situation is today.
As Paul says in Philippians Chapter Four, whether abounding or abasing, whether having plenty or suffering need, everywhere and in all things. This is a mandatory prescription, a prescription directly from God for every season of our lives. Are you ready for it?
Psalm 100:1–5 (NLT)
1 Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!
2 Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy.
3 Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.
Guys, that is an awesome Psalm. And we need to apply this prescription to our lives today. So, let's go through it one verse at a time right now.
Psalm 100:1 Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth. Guys, you have a reason to shout with joy to the Lord today. Wherever you're at on this crazy earth. And we need to shout with joy to the Lord. Sometimes it may just be an overflow of our emotion, and sometimes we may need to force it out of us. But we have a reason to shout with joy to the Lord, no matter what season we may be in on this temporal little earth, shout with joy to the Lord all the earth. This is the beginning of God's prescription for you.
Verse 2 Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. Worship the Lord with gladness. Worship, worship, worship the Lord with gladness. Worship the Lord with gladness. You may feel it today, or you may have to force it today. But either way, guys, the Lord is worthy of your worship with gladness today. So, we've got to come before him singing with joy. And listen, that first step is to come before him.
We've got to get into the presence of God first. We've got to get there. We've got to come before him. Whatever that looks like for you. Get to a church that knows how to worship and then get on with it. Come before him, singing with joy. Get right in the middle of a worship experience and sing and shout with joy to the Lord. And if you don't feel like you can do that, then you must do that. Guys, the less you feel like you can do that, the more desperately you need this prescription. Worship the Lord with gladness, come before him singing with joy.
And then in verse three, we begin to get the why. And now we're getting to the reason that you and I have today to worship the Lord with gladness.
Verse 3 says, Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Your Lord. He is God. He is the great Almighty God over all of creation. He is sovereignly in control and he is sovereignly at work in your life today. And it is critical that we acknowledge who our Lord truly IS. That he is absolutely God above all. And this great Almighty God, he made us, he created us. And we are his. We belong to him. He bought us with the highest price in all of creation, the very life of Jesus Christ. The Lord redeemed you. He brought you back with his own life. And now you are his.
We are his people. We are his family. We belong to him. We are the sheep of his pasture and he is the Good Shepherd, and all this Psalm 23 says about who our Good Shepherd IS and all that it says about what he is doing for us, is all true for you today. And we need to acknowledge that. We need to embrace that. We need to own that today. Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his and we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
And so, verse 4 says, Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. Again, the key is getting into his presence, getting into a place where you can enter into his gates or you can enter into his courts, and that might be getting into the right church or it might be inside a set of headphones with the right worship music playing, or it might be in your living room with great worship videos blasting from your TV. But you have to get there. You've got to get into the presence of God and you've got to go in with thanksgiving, and you've got to go in with praise. Regardless of the current season your life is in, regardless of your current station in life, God deserves your thanksgiving and your praise. Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name.
You and I have a reason today to give thanks to God and to praise his name, because verse 5 says, For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation. And so, whether your circumstances are good right now or not, I'll tell you one thing – the Lord is good. And whether you feel like it right now or not, the Lord's unfailing love for you continues forever.
And whether it seems like it or not, the Lord's faithfulness to you will never fail. His faithfulness will continue to each generation. And even when you feel faith-less, your God will remain faith-full, because that is who your God is. And he cannot deny himself. The Lord will always be faithful to you, because the Lord is good, and his unfailing love for you continues forever. Praise the mighty name of God today.
All right. Let's pray through these verses today, shall we? Psalm 100:1-5.
Heavenly Father, I will shout with joy to you. I will shout with joy with all of the earth. Lord, I will worship you with gladness. I will come before you. I will find a way to come before you. And when I come before you, I will come singing with joy. I will acknowledge that you, Lord, that you are God and that you are my God.
I will acknowledge, Lord, that you made me, that you created me, and that I am yours. I belong to you. You bought me with a price. You redeemed me. You own me. I am yours. You, I am part of your people, Lord. I am a sheep of your pasture, and you are the Good Shepherd. And so, Lord, I will enter your gates with thanksgiving. I will come into your courts with praise. I will give thanks to you and I will praise your name.
I will find a place in a way to do that, Lord, because you, Lord, are good. Not because of my circumstances, but because of you, Lord. Because you are good. Your unfailing love continues forever, and your faithfulness will continue to each generation.
Thank you, Lord, for being God and for being my God. Thank you for being my Shepherd. I worship you today, Lord. I come into your presence with singing, with joy, with thanksgiving, with praise. And Lord, I say you are good. You are good to me. You are good in my life. Your unfailing love shows in my life, and I know that you will always be faithful to me. Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Jesus. In your mighty name, amen.
Shout for joy to the Lord and worship the Lord with gladness, because your Lord is good. His love for you endures forever, and his incredible faithfulness to you will never end. Have an awesome day.
