Verses on Be Still And Know
Verses on Be Still And Know
Isaiah 40:31
Today is a follow-up to our previous devotion titled Be Still and Know. So, if you haven't read that devotion yet, you may want to before this one because today I'm going to be reading verses that support the truths that we dug into in that previous devotion. And the goal today is to just continue embedding this truth in our hearts, that we can truly be still and know that our God is God. And so, I'm going to read eight verses (from the NLT) to remind us of this truth.
We're going to read through these verses, and then I'm going to pray them, and then I'm going to send you on your way today. So, let's just pray really quick to get started. We'll pray that God would speak to us through his Word.
Heavenly Father, please do that. Please speak to us through your Word today. Lord, may it soak in. May it sink in. And may it stick. In your name, Jesus, amen.
Exodus 14:14 (NLT)
14 The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”
Exodus 14:13 (NLT)
13 . . . Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today . . .
1 Samuel 12:16 (NLT)
16 “Now stand here and see the great thing the Lord is about to do.
Psalm 107:28–29 (NLT)
28 “Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.
29 He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves.
Psalm 37:7 (NLT)
7 Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act . . .
Habakkuk 2:20 (NLT)
20 . . . the Lord is in his holy Temple. Let all the earth be silent before him.”
Isaiah 40:31 (NLT)
31 . . . those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
Psalm 62:5–6 (NLT)
5 Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.
6 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken.
Take the time and read through those verses again. Let them soak in and really listen to what God’s Word is saying.
Those are good verses. Pray through them with me.
Heavenly Father. Lord God, you, yourself, will fight for us, Lord. We've just got to remain calm. You will go before us. You will set our path, as Moses told the people, Lord, we can't be afraid.
We've just got to be committed to standing still and watching you rescue us in this situation today. And so, Lord, we will stand right where we're at. We will stand and we will see the great thing that you are about to do in our lives in this situation.
And Lord, we cry in our trouble, “Lord help.” And Lord, we know that you will save us from our distress. We know, Lord, that you will calm the storm to a whisper and you will still the waves. And so, Lord, we will be still in your presence.
And, Lord, we commit today to wait patiently for you to act. Because, Lord, we know that you are in your holy temple, you are in charge, and you are sovereignly in control. And so, Lord, we – with all the earth – will be silent before you.
And we know that as we trust in you, that we will find new strength, that we will soar high on wings like eagles, that we will run and not grow weary, we will walk and not faint. And so, Lord, we pray, Lord, that we would let all that we are wait quietly before you, because, Lord, you are our hope. Our hope is in you alone. You alone are our Rock and our Salvation. You alone are our Fortress. And in you, Lord, we will not be shaken.
Lord, let your Word take root in our hearts and strengthen and encourage us, today. We pray in the mighty life-changing name of Jesus, amen.
I hope that just letting these verses soak into your heart and praying through them has strengthened your resolve to be still and to know that he is God. And so, I pray that you would be encouraged today to know with certainty that you can be still and know that your God is God.
