God is With You
God is With You
Matthew 1:23
Today’s verse list comes from the all scripture daily devotional called Daily Light. (From April 20 p.m.). You are able to personalize these verses through your own prayer to God. Pause, meditate, and make notes in a journal or notebook or your Bible and take the time to make it real.
In Acts 26:15, Jesus appeared to Saul who would later become the Apostle Paul. Saul asked,
Acts 26:15 (NLT)
15 “‘Who are you, lord?’ I asked. “And the Lord replied, I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting.
We need this encounter with the Lord. We need this to be a personal encounter with the Lord, where we make Jesus our Savior and our Lord. And then, we need to know that when Jesus is our Lord that God is with us. That he is personally with us.
Speaking of Jesus before his birth, Matthew 1:23 says,
Matthew 1:23 (NLT)
23 … they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’”
Because we’ve had this personal experience with Jesus, making him our Savior and our Lord, then we can know without a doubt, that God is with us. And his presence with us will cast out all fear.
In Matthew 14:27 when the Disciples thought they were going to drown in a storm, Jesus came walking to them on the water. But Jesus didn’t say “Don’t be afraid because I can walk on water.” Instead, we read
Matthew 14:27 (NLT)
27 But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!”
It’s the presence of Jesus that brought all the power, and all the peace that the Disciples needed. And it’s his presence in our lives that will do the same thing for us. We’ve got to watch for Jesus in our lives and to hear him say to us, “Take courage. I am here!” And we know that his presence doesn’t mean that we won’t go through difficulties. What is does mean, is that he will be with us in and through those difficulties, and he will carry us through every difficulty, every trial, and every struggle.
The Lord says to his people (and that’s you if Jesus is your Lord, today),
Isaiah 43:2-3 (NLT)
2 When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.
3 For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior...
Lord, Jesus, help us to know that what we need most in every difficulty, in every trial, in every struggle, what we need most is to know that you are with us and that you will carry us through.
Psalm 23:4 says no matter how dark the valley, if we know that the Lord is with us, if we learn to trust that Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd, will lead, and guide, and protect, and comfort us, then no matter how dark the valley we can face it. We can go through it trusting completely in his victory in our lives.
Psalm 23:4 (NLT)
4 Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.
The Lord of all Creation either is or can be your Good Shepherd. And he will walk you through every difficulty, and every battle victoriously. And this is critical, we’ve got to know, ultimately, that the greatest eternal battle that we have no ability to win on our own is the eternal consequences of our sin. Our sin will eternally separate us from God unless a Savior saves us.
In Matthew 1:21, an Angel of the Lord tells Joseph,
Matthew 1:21 (NLT)
21 And she (Mary) will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
Jesus paid the full price for our victory over sin. And we receive that victory through our faith in him as our Savior.
1 John 2:1 (NLT)
1 … if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous.
When we do sin, Jesus our advocate brings his righteousness to the Father on our behalf. And the case he pleads before the father, is the fact that he has already paid for our sins in full. And so, we stand before God in the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ through our faith in him as our Savior.
And because of all of this, through our personal relationship with Jesus as our Savior, and by his righteousness that we receive through faith, and because of his promise to be our victory in every battle, then we can say with the Apostle Paul,
Romans 8:34-35 (NLT)
34 Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.
35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?
No! It does not mean he doesn’t love you because nothing can ever separate you from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus. In Jesus you are not condemned. In Christ you will be ultimately victorious. The love of Jesus Christ for you and your faith in him will bring absolute victory over every trial, every difficulty, and every circumstance in this life, and it will bring you the eternal victory of life with him in glory.
Take a minute right now to respond to the Lord about these great truths. Be sure to make these truths personal. Ask Jesus to be your Lord, to be your Savior, to be your Good Shepherd. And then just take a minute right now to share your heart with him, pour your heart out to him. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead your prayer.
