Must I Be Born Again? Part 3
Message 9
Today we finish our three part series on "Must I Be Born Again?" This series - in three parts - covers John 3:1-21. Let's start by briefly reviewing parts 1 and 2.
Must I Be Born Again Part 1 covered John 3:1-15, and there we met Nicodemus. Nicodemus was a Super-Pharisee who had achieved everything this world could offer, yet he still sensed something was missing, so he came to Jesus at night seeking answers. Jesus went straight to the heart of the issue. Jesus told Nicodemus very directly, "You must be born again." (in John 3:3)
We learned that being born again is
not about religion
not about being a good person
and certainly not about self-improvement
Being "born again" is a supernatural, spritual transformation that come only through genuine faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus illustrated this divine truth using the example of the bronze serpant in the wilderness (from Numbers Chapter 21) making it clear that "looking to Jesus" - meaning having faith in Christ alone - is God's only remedy to save us from death and give us eternal life.
Then in Must I Be Born Again Part 2 we explored the most famous verse in the Bible (John 3:16). In John 3:16 we saw the depth of God's love, a love so vast that he gave the One and Only Son of Heaven in order to rescue sinners. Verse 16 emphasized the free gift of salvation and eternal life is available to all who put their faith and trust in Jesus as their Savior. We saw that God's plan of salvation is a gift of God's frace freely offered to whoever will receive it through faith.
Now, In Part 3 (as we dive into John 3:17-21) Jesus reveals the dividing line between those who accept the gift and reject it.
Today, we'll see that our response to Jesus determines our eternity.
