The Essentials of Being a Good Witness

What does it really mean to be a good witness for Jesus? John the Baptist shows us the essentials-pointing away from ourselves and always toward Christ. In a world focused on self-promotion, John's humility stands out: "I am not the Christ." He knew his role was to prepare the way for Jesus, not to draw attention to himself.

Keep Jesus at the Center

The crowd wanted John to be the main event, but he refused. He consistently redirected the spotlight to Jesus: "He must become greater; I must become less." (John 3:30) Our message is not about what we have done, but about who Jesus is.

Share the Real Gospel

John's message was simple and powerful-Jesus is the Lamb of God, the only One who takes away sin. He pointed people to repentance and faith, not religious ritual or personal achievement. The good news is always about what Jesus has done for us.

Be Honest About Yourself

When questioned, John answered honestly and with humility. "I am not the Messiah… I am a voice shouting in the wilderness, 'Clear the way for the Lord's coming!'" A true witness isn't about image or status, but about being real and surrendered to God's purpose.

Let Your Life Point to Jesus

John's whole life was a signpost to Jesus. His testimony was simple: "I saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove from heaven and resting upon him." Our stories don't have to be dramatic-they just need to point to the One who changed us.
