God Is Big Enough To Handle You
Exodus 16:2-5 (NIV) 2 In the desert the whole community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. 3 The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.” 4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions. 6 On the sixth day they are to prepare what they bring in, and that is to be twice as much as they gather on the other days.”
I spent many years being angry with God. I was hurt by the church and hurt by other Christians, and I took my anger out on God. And, although I’m not proud of it, deep down, I knew that God was big enough to handle my anger and that He saw the whole story and knew that my heart was deeply broken. I had been so wounded and so let down that I couldn’t help but pick a fight.
When I read passages in the Bible like Exodus 16, it’s easy for me to forget how I used to be and judge the Israelites for complaining when God was in the middle of rescuing them. But the truth is, if I were in their shoes, I probably would’ve felt very justified in my complaints because their circumstances, up until their great escape, had been very traumatizing.
What is so reassuring about this passage is how good God is — even when he’s being made out to be the bad guy. He doesn’t get angry and stop helping them. He listens to their cries, and He comes to their rescue even still. He answers their prayers and provides for them.
I want you to know that even on your worst day, you are so loved by God. You are always His priority, and He will never stop loving you and taking care of you. So, maybe today is tough, but I want you to take a moment and just be brutally honest with God. Tell him your biggest fears, cry, scream, whatever it takes. Run to Him and leave it all at His feet. He wants to be your refuge.
Prayer: Father, even on my worst days, you are my Savior and my Hope. Continue to remind me that I am loved by you, and use your strength to comfort me in my weakness. I pray you would hear my complaints and fears and transform them into answered prayers. Thank you for loving me and taking care of me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
