Rooting For The Underdog
Jeremiah 31:4-7 (CEB) 4 Again, I will build you up, and you will be rebuilt, virgin Israel. Again, you will play your tambourines and dance with joy. 5 Again, you will plant vineyards on the hills of Samaria; farmers will plant and then enjoy the harvests. 6 The time will come when the watchmen shout from the highlands of Ephraim: "Get ready! We’re going up to Zion to the Lord our God!" 7 The Lord proclaims: Sing joyfully for the people of Jacob; shout for the leading nation. Raise your voices with praise and call out: "The Lord has saved his people, the remaining few in Israel!"
There is something so special about an underdog.
Everyone wants to root for someone who is desperate for a victory.
“Again, I will build you up…”
“Again, you will play your tambourines…”
“Again, you will plant vineyards…”
Again, again, again! God is the king of the underdogs. He loves to grant victory to those who are seeking him. He is the God of second, third, and millionth chances, and he does not hold back the blessings that come with it. Again and again, we are forgiven and blessed with the inheritance of the Kingdom of Heaven and the gift of spending an eternity with our Heavenly Father.
Questions: Where in your life do you see God "rooting" for you? Reflect on the victories he has given you. Describe one specific time you have had victory through God and experienced his forgiveness and blessings.
Prayer: Lord! You have risen and given us life again! Thank you for loving the underdog and giving us a chance to be victorious through your mighty power. In Jesus’ name, amen.
