God vs. Blender

Psalm 104:24-30 (CEB) 24 Lord, you have done so many things! You made them all so wisely! The earth is full of your creations! 25 And then there’s the sea, wide and deep, with its countless creatures— living things both small and large. 26 There go the ships on it, and Leviathan, which you made, plays in it! 27 All your creations wait for you to give them their food on time. 28 When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are filled completely full! 29 But when you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to dust. 30 When you let loose your breath, they are created, and you make the surface of the ground brand-new again.

Today, I learned that blenders can explode for no reason and catch your paper towel holder on fire. Don’t worry, I’m fine. My blender, however, is toast.

Sometimes, I’m afraid that God, like manmade things, can’t be fully trusted. How can someone I’ve never even seen face to face possibly love me enough to keep me safe and be trusted to handle the important things in my life? Sometimes, I act like God is an untrustworthy blender put together carelessly by some stranger in a factory.

But here’s the truth: You can count on God in a way that you can never count on a blender.

God has never been, and He never will be untrustworthy. He has proved this to me time and time again. Every moment of our lives has a purpose that was divinely created by Him. And even in my distrust, God loves me and still shows up for me, and He will always show up for you, too. It’s safe for you to trust Him.

Questions: In what ways are you bracing yourself for God to disappoint or let you down? What can you lay at His feet today and entrust Him with fully?

Prayer: Renew my trust in you, Father. Show me that you are faithful, and remind me of how you have never left or abandoned me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
