Even-Keeled

Philippians 4:12-13 (NLT) 12 . . . I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

When I was little, I had a very difficult time controlling my temper. My dad used to tell me I needed to learn how to be “even-keeled” in life and not let my circumstances or other people impact me to the point where it got me into trouble. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve begun to treasure and apply that advice to my life more and more.

Cultivating a steady trust in God is what allows us to move through any circumstance with more ease. When we define our lives by faith, we do not need to rely on the opinions of others or identify with the ways of the world. God is the only one who can do the impossible and give us the strength, wisdom, and patience to get through anything.

Questions: In what areas of your life are you still living from your own strength? How can you surrender those areas to God this week?

Prayer: Father, help me trust you with my decisions. Build my future for me and lead me to it. I want to lean on you with my whole heart and make you the most important thing in my life. Help me to rely on you instead of relying on my own understanding. Direct my path, and do not let me stray off it. I want to be in your will. In Jesus’ name, amen.
