Unanswered Prayers

Genesis 50:20 (NIV) You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.

There have been many prayers in my life that have seemingly gone unanswered. Some prayers I prayed and forgot about. Some prayers made me wonder if God was even listening to me. So today, I want to share with you what I do when my prayers go unanswered.

  1. I stand on the promise of 1 John 5:14 (NIV) which says: This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
  2. I choose to trust that there is always movement, even if I can’t see it. This is where I pray diligently and ask God to keep my focus anchored in His perfect peace.
  3. I change my expectations of what the answer to my prayer is “supposed” to look like.
  4. I ask God for renewed vision and refreshed perspective so that fear cannot claim territory in my mind.

Prayer: God thank you for turning evil into good, mourning into dancing, and darkness into light. I ask that you help me keep my mind focused on you and my plans submitted to you as I await your answers to all of my prayers. Help me to accept your will and walk on the path you have laid out for me. Thank you for governing my life and listening to the things that weigh heavy on my heart. In Jesus’ name, amen
