Be The Christmas Miracle
1 John 4:7 (NIV) Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. . .
It is so important to remember that the holidays are not always a holly, jolly good time. There is often a lot of grief, heartache, and loneliness around Christmas. There are people in nursing homes who have been abandoned by their families. There are children without parents or parents who can’t afford to give their kids a Christmas to celebrate. There are small businesses that can’t stay afloat. There are deaths, breakups, divorces. Wars do not stop just stop because Santa is coming to town. I don’t say all of this to discourage you but to inspire you to see the sorrow of this world and not run from it but rather embrace it with love.
The most important gift we can give this holiday season is the gift of loving one another. Perhaps this year, we will all look beyond the twinkling decor and see that Christmas is truly about what we give to one another in the midst of pain and uncertainty — how we allow love to fill the void instead of the vapidness of material goods. Maybe, together, we start a new tradition of taking care of those who need to receive some Christmas magic.
Ways we can love our communities this year:
How can we carry on the Christmas tradition of bearing good news and be someone’s Christmas miracle in honor of Christ?
Prayer: Father, please put people on my heart to help this holiday season. Help me to share my blessings with others and to have the faith and courage to take care of those in need. Let all of the works of my hands be done in love and obedience. In Jesus’ name, amen.
