More Than I Can Handle
1 Corinthians 10:13
Week 10/Day 2
Hey, y’all. My name is Daisy, and we are back with another devotional. If you are joining us for the first time, welcome. I am so happy that you’re here. All you need for this devotional to follow along is a Bible, and a pen, and a designated journal. If you have our Alone With God journal, please use that. But if you don’t have our Alone With God journal, or you don’t know what that is, please reach out to us so that one of our team members can get one to you. This Alone With God journal is perfectly designed to help you practice spending alone time in the scripture and to help you transform your life and your relationship with God through these devotionals. So, the journals and these devotionals really work together, and we would love to make sure that you have one.
So, today we are going to be meditating on 1 Corinthians 10, verse 13. I’m going to read the verse first a couple of times, and then you will pause and read the verse on your own. And then after you meditate on it for a little bit, thinking about what God’s saying, what the spiritual principles of this passage are, why it matters, things like that, while you meditate on that, you will read the verse over a few times, and then you’ll come back, and we will start taking about how to apply the scripture to your life.
1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)
13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
Go ahead, pause. In the Meditate section of your journal page, write down what God’s Word is saying here. What are the spiritual principles?
The Bible never tells us that there is not going to be trouble in this world. In fact, it tells us that there will be trouble in this world. But God does promise us that he is going to be there for us and guide us every step of the way, even when we’re struggling.
And every time that I have been overwhelmed with a situation, I walk away with a deeper appreciation for God, who is never intimidated by the things that intimidate me. And so, it makes me more thankful and more reliant on him because I know I cannot survive without his guidance and without his authority over my life. So, if we choose to lean into what God wants to show us and we stop resisting the opportunity for growth, God will always use our circumstances and our struggles to bring us closer to him. And when that happens, he will never let us down. He will not fail us.
So, how can you apply this scripture to your own life? In the Apply section of your journal, write down your thoughts about what stands out to you about this verse. And maybe think about have you ever felt overwhelmed with something that you just felt like you couldn’t handle. And when are you most likely to question God’s guidance? When do you doubt him the most? Go ahead and pause, reflect, and write how this applies to your life today, personally and specifically.
Okay, now we’re going to take a moment to respond to God with our actions. So, what is one step that you can take to remember that God has proven his presence in your life over and over again? What are those moments that you can replay when you are struggling to keep your head above water? And how can you surrender your worries to him today? In the Respond area of your journal guide, write down how you are going to respond to God this week with your actions in response to the truth in this verse.
Okay, so now we are going to close in prayer. I will pray for you first. I would be honored to pray for you first, and then in the Pray section of your journal, write your own prayer to God to align your heart with his will on this truth from today.
So, let’s pray.
God, when we are drowning like Peter, you are there to lift us out of the water. You put our feet on solid ground again. You’re the one who loves us so much that you never abandon us, and you always rescue us. And all you ask is that we just put our trust in you. So, help us to not lean on our own understanding but in all our ways acknowledge and trust in you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
