Romans 8:38-39
Week 9/Day 4
Hi, y’all. My name is Daisy, and I am so happy that you are here, joining me as we open up our Bibles and spend some quality alone time with God in this devotional. To follow along, you just need a Bible, and a pen, and a designated journal. We are offering our Alone With God journal. So, it is the journal that is what inspired these recorded devotionals. If you have it, please use it.
And if you don’t have it, please let us know so that we can make you that you get one because the Alone With God journal is just the perfect way to practice spending alone time with God and really learning how to use the scripture to transform our lives. So it’s really important; it’s a great tool, and we would love to make sure that you have one.
Today we are going to be meditating on Romans 8, verses 39-39. I will read the verse a couple of times, and then I will leave you. You will go meditate on the scripture on your own. Think about what God is saying and why it’s important. And then, come back, and we will work through the application part together.
Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)
38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,
39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Take a moment, and in the Meditate section of your journal, write down what God is saying here. Why is it important?
If you knew that you had the winning numbers for a lottery ticket, you’d probably buy one, right? If you knew you couldn’t lose, you’d be so full of anticipation for the announcement of your big win. You’d be bragging; you’d be so excited. There wouldn’t be a doubt in your mind that that money was yours.
God’s love is our lottery ticket, one that never fails us. His love comes with no risk and all reward. We can bet on his love one hundred percent of the time. It never changes. It never lets us down. His grace is enough. His guidance is enough. His wisdom is enough. His power is enough. That is the confidence that comes with living a life that is centered and grounded in Christ. We can never lose with God because we can never be separated from his love, no matter what. Nothing can come between us.
So, how can you apply this scripture to your life? In the Apply section of your journal, write down your thoughts about what stands out to you about this verse. Is there anything that you’re holding back from God because maybe you’re worried that he’s going to stop loving you? Go ahead, reflect, apply this scripture to your life, and then we will move on to the response portion of this devotional.
Okay. Let’s take a moment and respond to God with action about this verse. So, how does the way that you live your life change when you know that nothing can separate you from God’s love? How does this motivate you to love other people better and to love yourself better? So, pause. In the Respond section of your journal, write down your thoughts. Respond to God. Make a plan of action for this week.
Okay. I’m going to close us out in prayer, and then I will give you the last few moments to write down a prayer of your own in the Pray section of the journal page.
So, let’s pray together.
God, thank you for your unconditional love. Thank you that you promise to never leave us or abandon us and that we can count on your promises. You are our winning lottery ticket to life. You never disappoint us. You never give up on us, no matter how many times we fail or stumble. There is absolutely nothing on this earth or in the spiritual realm that can separate us from your love, and that is so comforting. Help us to love others the way that you love us, and help us to honor you with our words, and our thoughts, and our actions. In Jesus’ name, amen.
