DEVO - Avoidance

Avoidance
Psalm 139:7-12

Sometimes when I sit down to record these devotionals, I really don’t want to. It’s not that I don’t want to; of course, I want to. Who wouldn’t want to share the Good News? Right?

But, I’m afraid. There. I said it. I am afraid. I’m afraid. What if I don’t say the right thing? What if my voice sounds weird? What if my message doesn’t really resonate with people? I’m scared.

Sometimes I don’t want God to use me – which is so ironic because my number one prayer is to be used by him.

Is there something you’ve been avoiding because you’re afraid? When you feel fear, focus on God. Cry out to him in prayer. Align your next actions with his truth, even if you’re scared. And then pray for the reassurance of the Lord’s presence as you work. And when you know he’s with you, that is when we can face our fears.

Let’s look at some verses together.

Psalm 139:7-12 (NIV)
7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.

We can’t hide from God. So, let’s embrace him. And let’s embrace our fears and do his work.
