When Overwhelmed
When Overwhelmed
Psalm 94:19
What do you do when you are feeling overwhelmed?
Psalm 94:19 (NLT)
19 When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.
If you are overwhelmed today and doubts are filling your mind, God’s comfort will renew your hope and it will secure your heart. His comfort will be your refuge. The question is, how do we get there from here?
Isaiah 26:3-4 (NLT)
3 You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
4 Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.
Right now, you have got to trust God. You have got to force yourself to trust God. No matter what you see, no matter what you think, or what you feel, your God is worthy of your trust. And so, right now, fix your thoughts on God. He alone is your eternal Rock. You have got to trust God more than your circumstances. And then, you have got to come to him. You have got to learn how to come to him.
Matthew 11:28-29 (NLT)
28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.
I know, it’s hard. I know it is. But we have to fight through all the stuff, and we’ve got to come to Jesus in a real, and a meaningful way.
29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
I know it’s easier said than done. But we have got to find that quiet moment, in that quiet place and come to Jesus. We’ve got to truly come to him, to fall into his arms, and to take his yoke upon us. And right there, in that moment, we have got to let him teach us. And then, we will find rest for our souls. But then, also, we’ve got to learn to stay there. We’ve got to learn to stay in his shelter, to live there in his presence.
Psalm 91:1-2 (NLT)
1 Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.
When you are overwhelmed, the Lord alone is your refuge. He alone is your place of safety. He alone is your God. And you absolutely can trust him. And you absolutely must trust him.
Psalm 18:2 (NLT)
2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.
This is who your God is. He is your Rock, he is your Fortress, he is your Savior – your God is your Rock. In him you find protection. He is your Shield. He is the power that saves you. Your Lord is your place of safety. And if you are overwhelmed today, the Lord wants to help you. He is ready to help you.
Isaiah 41:10 (NLT)
10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
God is with you, and God is ready to help you. He is ready to strengthen you, he is ready to hold you up. But we have to come to him. We have to fight through all the “overwhelmedness” in order to get to him.
Psalm 121:1-2 (NLT)
1 I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there?
2 My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!
We have got to be absolutely certain that our help comes from the Lord – no place else. My help comes from the Lord because it is our God who is our refuge and our strength. It is our God who is ready to help in times of trouble. God is there and he is ready.
Psalm 46:1 (NLT)
1 God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.
But we have to cry out to him – from the ends of the earth, we have to cry out to him. When our heart is overwhelmed, we have to cry out to him. And then he will lead us to the rock of safety.
Psalm 61:1-2 (NLT)
1 O God, listen to my cry! Hear my prayer!
2 From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety,
Lord, we say today, our hearts are overwhelmed. We have no place on earth to turn. Lord, you alone are our rock, you alone are our refuge. You are our strong tower. You alone are our strength and our peace and our hope. And Lord, God, we trust you. We absolutely, completely trust you. And we are crying out to you today, Lord, hear our prayer. From the ends of the earth, we cry out to you. Our hearts are overwhelmed, Lord. Please, lead us to your towering rock of safety. This we declare about you, Lord. You alone are our refuge, our place of safety. You alone are our God. And we will absolutely and completely trust you. Amen.
