Always Rejoicing
2 Corinthians 6:10
Our focus today is the joy, the encouragement, and the spiritual riches that we have in Christ regardless of the difficulty of our circumstances.
I’ll be praying through the verse list from the all scripture devotional Daily Light April 7 a.m. I encourage you to pause, meditate, and make notes in a journal, notebook, or your Bible as the Lord speaks to you.
2 Corinthians 10:6 (NLT)
6 Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything.
Lord, Jesus, our hearts ache. There are sorrows, and there are difficulties, and there are trials in this life but, Lord, we always have joy. In you, Jesus, we have inexpressible joy. And, Lord, even if we are poor, we can still give out our spiritual riches to others. Lord, you say we are fragile jars of clay but you have given us these great spiritual riches to give out to others. And, Lord, even if we own nothing in this fleeting, temporal world, yet we have everything in you, Jesus.
Romans 5:2-3 (NLT)
2 Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.
3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance.
Lord, it’s because of our faith, Lord, that you have brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand. And, Lord, we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing in your glory, Lord. Our eyes are set beyond the horizon to that time that we see you face-to-face and share your glory. And so, Lord, we can rejoice, too when we run into problems and trials. For we know, Lord, that these problems and trials help us develop the endurance that we need to continue to run this race until the end, where we will confidently and joyfully see you face-to-face and share in your glory.
In the next verse, Paul is talking about the saints in Corinth, and he says this.
2 Corinthians 7:4 (NLT)
4 I have the highest confidence in you, and I take great pride in you. You have greatly encouraged me and made me happy despite all our troubles.
Lord, when we are living through our trials and our troubles in this world, you always will use saints around us to encourage us and to give us joy despite our troubles. And, Lord, may we be wise enough to build those relationships before we need them. And, Lord, may we also be this kind of saint to a fellow believer around us in their times of trouble.
1 Peter 1:8 (NLT)
8 You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy.
Lord, Jesus, we love you. We love you, Lord. We love you even though we have never seen you with our physical eyes, we love you. Even though we do not physically see you now, Lord, we trust you. We love you and we trust you, and we rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy not because of what we can see, not because of our circumstances, but because of our love for you, Lord, and our trust in you.
2 Corinthians 8:2 (NLT)
2 They are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity.
And Lord, even if we are being tested by many troubles, and even if we are very poor, Lord we are also being filled with abundant joy which is overflowing in rich generosity. And Lord, may we have your abundant joy, Lord, and may it truly overflow in rich generosity to those around us regardless – despite our circumstances, Lord.
Ephesians 3:8-9 (NLT)
8 Though I am the least deserving of all God’s people, he graciously gave me the privilege of telling the Gentiles about the endless treasures available to them in Christ.
9 I was chosen to explain to everyone this mysterious plan that God, the Creator of all things, had kept secret from the beginning.
And Lord, Jesus, even though we are the least deserving, Lord, you have graciously given us the privilege of telling the nations, and of telling those around us about the endless treasures available to them in Christ. Lord, we’ve been chosen. We’ve been called to explain to those around us this mysterious plan that you, God – the Creator of All Things – had kept secret from the beginning. Lord, Jesus, regardless of our current struggles, of our current state, Lord, we’ve been given the privilege of being a light in the dark world, of telling those around us about the endless treasures – the spiritual riches – that are available to them in you, Jesus. By faith in you.
James 2:5 (NLT)
5 Listen to me, dear brothers and sisters. Hasn’t God chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith? Aren’t they the ones who will inherit the Kingdom he promised to those who love him?
And Lord God, haven’t you chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith? And aren’t we the ones who will inherit the Kingdom that you promise to those who love you? And Lord, it is so worth being poor in this world if it means being rich in faith and inheriting the Kingdom that you’ve promised to those who love you. Lord, help us keep our priorities right, Lord. Help us keep our hearts and our eyes focused beyond the horizon to your Kingdom.
2 Corinthians 9:8 (NLT)
8 And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
And Lord God, you will generously provide all that we need. And then, Lord, we will always have everything we need, and plenty left over to share with others. But Lord, there’s a matter of perspective, here. Your provision, Lord, may be much bigger than we want. Lord, we may want worthless, material things. And Father, God, you may provide, instead, great spiritual riches – inner joy, peace, strength, confidence, Lord, in abundance so that we will have all that we need of the eternally valuable things and plenty left over to share with others.
Lord God, your generous provision may be much more valuable than the worthless things of this world. Lord, we pray that we would learn to trust that you know what is truly valuable in our lives. And, Lord, please give us the wisdom, the supernatural wisdom to not let our flesh and this world dictate a false value definition to us.
Heavenly Father, thank you for the joy, for the encouragement, and for the spiritual riches that we have in Christ regardless of the difficulty of our current circumstances, Lord. Whether abounding or abasing, having plenty or suffering need, Lord, no matter what the circumstances we face, Lord, you have given us inexpressible joy and the greatness of the riches of heaven, Lord; the joy and the encouragement of knowing you in the midst of our circumstances. And so, Lord, we say may the great eternal gifts that you’ve given us drive us through each day of this temporal life, and each circumstance until we see you face-to-face and are sharing your glory for eternity. Lord, it is in your mighty, powerful, and all-loving name, Jesus, amen.
